Lorry cabin bursts into flames after crash in Sabak Bernam

SABAK BERNAM: A lorry driver escaped a fiery death when the vehicle crashed into a road shoulder and caught fire near a petrol station in Kampung Desa Kasih, Tebuk Pulai here yesterday.

In the 7am incident, the man in his 30s was driving alone and heading to Teluk Intan from Klang. He was not injured.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Hafisham Mohd Noor said it received a distress call at 7.11am and a six-member team on a fire tender was dispatched from the Sabak Bernam Fire and Rescue station.

"Based on an initial report, the accident involved a container lorry with a cargo of bottled drinks. The lorry skidded and crashed on the road shoulder.

"A fire occurred and it may have been caused by the vehicle's engine. The fire spread to the lorry's cabin," he said when contacted today. The fire had destroyed about the 30 per cent of the lorry's cabin.

He said firefighters took about three minutes to douse the flames.
