2 million vehicles expected on PLUS highway per day during Aidilfitri festive period

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) is anticipating 2 million vehicles to travel using PLUS highway per day on peak days in conjunction with the Aidilfitri holiday period.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad chief operating officer Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said the peak days would be from April 20 to 21, April 24 to 25, April 29 to May 1 and May 4 to 7, an increase of 20 per cent in traffic compared to normal days.

"We advise highway users to travel earlier to avoid getting caught in traffic surges during peak days," he said in a statement today.

PLUS is also taking various measures to ensure safer and more convenient travel for those going back to their hometowns for the celebration.

He said PLUS would collaborate with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Road Transport Department (RTD) to heighten safety and provide an Emergency Response Team (ERT) at 11 strategic locations on the highway with over 500 personnel.

"PLUS will also provide over 6,000 personnel from the highway ecosystem at toll plazas, rest areas, lay-bys and highway mainline to assist highway users," he added.

PLUS will also issue its Travel Time Advisory (TTA) to help the public plan their travels during the Aidilfitri holiday.

Additionally, PLUS will temporarily halt upgrading and maintenance works on the highway from April 19 to May 1 to ensure a smoother and more comfortable journey.

"In the event of an emergency or critical repair work cases, lane closures will be carried out to ensure the safety of highway users," he added.

To get the latest traffic updates, highway users can visit PLUS Twitter @PLUStrafik or @LPT2trafik, the PLUS app, PUTRI Chatbot, radio stations and Variable Message Signs (VMS).
