KUANTAN: Wildfires have been reported in three Pahang districts this month.
Firefighters have been kept busy fighting peat, bush and plantation fires in the state capital, Pekan and Rompin.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said bushfires had caused haze in certain areas, including housing settlements.
"In Kuantan, fires have been reported in Taman Tas and Permatang Badak, while bush fires were reported in Jalan Pekan-Rompin near Nenasi in Pekan.
"In Rompin, a 2ha plantation was affected.
"In some areas, people are using the slash-and-burn farming method. We put out the fires, but the areas were on fire again after a few hours."
Ismail said forest fires were under control and the department was prepared to face worse scenarios next month.
"The Malaysian Meteorological Department expects the hot weather to last until May or June.
"Firemen are on standby for any eventuality, including during the Hari Raya festive season."
