RMAF initiates investigation on ragging issue: Tok Mat

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has said that Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has initiated an internal investigation regarding the recent ragging issue.

Mohamad said the police had already received a report from the father of the victim who was allegedly bullied during his training in Kuantan.

"The police have already come to investigate at the Air Force training center in Kuantan and their investigating officers have also started the investigation. The investigation, however, is still ongoing."

RMAF has also launched its own internal investigation based on the investigation conducted by the Royal Malaysian Police.

"The complainant reported the matter to the police, who are investigating the case, while we (Defence Ministry) and the armed forces are also cooperating in the probe to ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated," he added.

The internal investigation is being conducted to ensure that all members adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the training.

Mohamad said that action would be taken against those found guilty of violating the discipline and regulations of the Air Force.

Previously, a Twitter user @ummiiiiinmo posted a thread that went viral claiming her brother was a victim of ragging while in training at the base.

Among the attacks the trainee reportedly received were whipping using a pipe rubber, being bitten on his ears, being stripped naked, and beaten allegedly by the seniors.

Mohamad earlier attended the ministry-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations at the Defence Ministry at Kementah Camp, here, today.

Also present at the event were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari , Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang and other senior members of the armed forces as well as foreign missions to Malaysia.
