SEMPORNA: A woman died after complaining of breathing difficulties while snorkelling at a resort here yesterday.
In the incident that happened at around 4.15pm, the 53-year-old victim who hails from Selangor, is said to have been snorkelling with a friend before complaining of having difficulty breathing.
She was confirmed to have died at Hospital Semporna.
Semporna district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that based on initial investigations, the victim was brought back up onto the boat and rushed back to the jetty after complaining of having breathing difficulties.
"The victim was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by the resort staff before being rushed to hospital for further treatment.
"The victim is believed to have died of a suspected heart attack by the medical officer on duty," he said in a statement issued earlier today.
Mohd Farhan said that an autopsy would be carried out and for now the case had been classified as sudden death.
Earlier, a video of a group of individuals including a woman performing CPR on the victim who was unconscious, went viral on social media.
