KUALA LUMPUR: A netizen captured the hearts of many people with a story of his family selling a vehicle that they had used for 20 years.
A video, posted on TikTok account @zhafrihassanzuzu, showed his father's emotional response to a decision to sell the Toyota Unser and related the many good things that had happened with the help of the vehicle.
"My dad rarely cries but today he has to sell our family car. He loves this car so much. It's really sad because the car holds many memories.
"It was there for us during floods, and it ferried my siblings to school. It brought our relatives back to our hometown and so much more," he added.
He expressed gratitude to the car: "Thank you for serving us for exactly 20 years. To the new owner, please take good care of my dad's car."
But there was also reason to rejoice.
The TikTok user shared a video of his siblings and he picking up a brand new Perodua Ativa to surprise their parents.
The video gained more than 233,300 views and 196 comments. Many other people shared stories of having to let go of their cars, too.
One user, @hanaa1798, said: "It reminded me of my Proton Saga that I sold back in 2021. It was so heartbreaking. After selling it, I kept seeing the image of my car in the garage for three days."
Another social media user, @zainizamz, recalled a similar feeling:
"I had been using my Kia Forte for 10 years and it was hard to let it go, but I had to upgrade to an MPV for the comfort of my children. It was really sad having to sell it."
