New X90: Proton aims to sell 1,000 units a month

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) hopes to achieve a sales target of 1,000 units per month for its mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) model, the X90, which was launched today.

Proton deputy chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the target was based on its production plan as well as discussions with component suppliers and dealers nationwide.

Asked on how the X90 will fare against its competitors in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment , Roslan said the new model offers a competitive price tag for the size and safety features the vehicle is equipped with.

"Maybe there are other brands that offer the same model within the NEV segment, but what distinguishes X90 from the rest is the technology incorporated in the vehicle and most importantly, affordability and space, especially for growing families," he said.

Proton recently posted a 6.5 per cent year-on-year growth for April 2023.

Roslan said with the launch of the X90, the company is expecting to see an increase in sales in the coming months.

On a full-fledged electric vehicle, Roslan said Proton will unveil its own fully-electric vehicle in 2025.

The company earlier today launched the X90, its first mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV), in conjunction with the its 40th anniversary.

This marks Proton's maiden entry into the NEV market.

The X90 is the national automaker's third sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the X series model line-up with the price tag from RM123,800 to RM152,800.
