Anwar to Tun M: "I have no problems declaring my wealth"

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated that he has no problems declaring his wealth.

Responding to the challenge issued by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar said he was one of the many political leaders, who had declared his assets ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15), last year.

"I have no problem, I am among the individuals who declared their wealth, which he (Dr Mahathir) did not.

"I even declared my wealth previously at about RM11 million, which includes the house I own in Segambut.

"That is a known fact," he said when met by reporters during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Dataran Merdeka, today.

Present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

Anwar, who is also the Tambun member of parliament, once again said he has the evidence to back his claims that Dr Mahathir amassed wealth during the latter's tenure as prime minister.

"We have it. But if one of his children owns a plane and has a company worth billions, what other evidence that we need?

"Everyone knows, so do not right the wrong (jangan menegakkan benang yang basah)."

Previously, Anwar challenged past leaders, who amassed wealth during their tenures in leading the country, to surrender half of what they had gained to the Malay community if they were truly sincere in helping the community.

He specifically named past leaders such as Dr Mahathir and former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and hoped the message will be relayed to them.

Following this, Dr Mahathir accused Anwar of helping his cronies during the latter's stint as deputy prime minister.

Dr Mahathir had also challenged the PKR president to declare his amassed wealth when he was in the Cabinet in the 1990s.
