Storms uproot trees in several parts of Klang Valley [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Strong winds followed by heavy rain last night uprooted at least 10 trees in several parts of the Klang Valley.

Although no one was injured when the rain started at about 5pm, checks by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department showed that at least 14 cars and five motorcycles were damaged as a result of fallen trees at 16 locations.

Among the roads affected were Jalan Sultan Ismail, Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Istana.

"Areas affected were mostly parking lots along the road and residential parking space, namely at Jalan Kampung Attap, Jalan Talalla, National Museum, Sri Alam People's Housing Project (PPR) in Sungai Besi, Danau Kota flat in Wangsa Maju, Taman Bukit Angkasa, Jalan Riong, Jln 22/146 Bandar Tasik Selatan, Bayu Mont Kiara in Bukit Kiara, Jalan Kelantan along Bukit Persekutuan and Jalan Ayer Jernih near Setapak.

"We deployed our men from almost all the stations in the city to remove the collapsed trees from obstructing traffic.

"Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in any of the incidents," said the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.
