Police wrap up investigation paper on Dr M over alleged insult of royal institution

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have completed the investigation paper on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his alleged insult of the royal institution.

Police secretary, Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, said the investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers on Tuesday.

"Police have completed the investigation paper on Tun Dr Mahathir concerning the alleged insult of the royal institution.

"The paper will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers on June 6, 2023 (Tuesday), in line with the provision under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution," she said in a statement today.

At the same time, she said the police investigation on Dr Mahathir regarding the Malay Proclamation issue is still at the preliminary stage.

She said police will be recording statements from Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P Ramasamy.

Yesterday, it was reported that police had recorded Dr Mahathir's statement following his remarks on the royal institution as well as the Malay Proclamation issue.

Noorsiah in a statement yesterday said officers from the federal police headquarters had recorded Dr Mahathir's statement at 10.30am the same day.

She said the statement was recorded at the Yayasan Albukhary building under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Pejuang information chief, Rafique Rashid, had said he had accompanied the former Langkawi member of parliament during the process.

"Dr Mahathir had stated his readiness to be charged in court and said he would answer all questions in court," he said.
