Body of newborn baby found floating near KK water village

KOTA KINABALU: The body of a newborn baby was found floating at a water village near here on Saturday.

District acting police chief Superintendent Kalsom Idris said they were informed of the incident at about 6.30pm yesterday.

"Yesterday, while crossing a wooden bridge in the water village, a resident was approached by a 9-year-old boy who inquired about an object floating in the water, unsure if it was a statue or a baby.

"The resident observed the floating object and tragically found it to be the body of a newborn, floating near the bridge.

"Without delay, the resident along with others in the area immediately contacted the police to report the incident."

Kalsom added that Kota Kinabalu police have not obtained further details regarding the incident.

She said authorities suspect that the baby was deliberately thrown into the sea shortly after birth.

"Kota Kinabalu police urge the public to come forward with any relevant information concerning this case. Inspector Hatikah Binti Ahmad @ Abd Ghani can be reached at 016-8337243."
