GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Wildlife Department rescued a female tiger named 'Mek Blau' yesterday after it was discovered caught in a poacher's trap near Pos Blau.
The four to five-year-old tiger, weighing approximately 80kg, sustained injuries to its left leg.
According to Mohamad Hafid Rohani, the director of the Kelantan Wildlife Department, the incident was reported to the department around 11.30 am on Thursday.
Upon receiving the report, he said a wildlife team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
"Using a drone, the team was able to track down the injured tiger and successfully rescue it at noon yesterday.
"The animal was promptly transported for treatment to address the injuries on its left leg."
Preliminary investigations suggest that the trap was recently set up by poachers.
Hafid urged those with any information about illegal wildlife activities to contact the department's hotline at 1-800-88-5151 or report via email at www.wildlife.gov.my.
Alternatively, they can reach out to the nearest Wildlife office.
It has been noted that the rescued female tiger was among those sighted in the Orang Asli settlements in the Gua Musang district over the past two years.
Apart from Pos Blau, other affected settlements include Pos Hendrop and Pos Bihai.
