Tiger sighting reported in Kelantan, wildlife authorities investigating

TANAH MERAH: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department has confirmed receiving a report of a tiger sighting along Jalan Kelewek-Bechah Laut recently.

Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said that the report, lodged by villagers from Kampung Bechah Laut last weekend, prompted an immediate investigation.

"The villagers claimed one of them spotted a tiger roaming near a rubber estate in Bukit Layang-Layang recently," he said.

"We deployed a team there soon after the report was lodged to investigate the case."

The department has yet to decide whether to set up traps or cameras in the vicinity, as they need to first confirm the type of tiger.

"We will take the next step once we have identified the tiger species," Hafid added.

News of the latest sighting in Kampung Bechah Laut has circulated on social media since last Thursday.

The presence of the tiger has caused concern among villagers, with some afraid to leave their homes to go to work.
