Report lodged against policewoman in mall car park harassment case [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have received a report involving a policewoman who allegedly harassed a family at a shopping mall's parking lot in Brickfields here on Friday.

The 35-year-old senior police officer with the rank of inspector has been under fire following a series of viral videos showing her misconducts, one of which she berated lower-ranking colleagues.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor said in a statement that a 27-year-old woman had lodged a report on the incident.

He said the complainant, who was with her family members, parked her car at a parking spot at about 5.26pm.

"A confrontation arose when the policewoman wanted to park her vehicle next to the complainant's car, but the latter's driver and back passenger doors were open.

"The complainant said her grandmother was changing her niece's diaper at that time. Frustrated, the suspect honked her vehicle and was seen shouting and scolding the complainant and her family members.

"The person who is now being investigated also disparaged the complainant for her sexy-looking attire and recorded a video. The conflict was resolved by a man and his wife, who witnessed the incident. The complainant then proceeded to enter the NU Sentral shopping centre," said Amihizam.

He said the investigations focused on two offences, and police were also determining whether disciplinary action would taken while they assessed the suspect's mental health.

"The case is investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code (for a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person); Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955 (for insulting behaviour). Actions are being taken in terms of disciplinary action and the person under investigation's mental health.

"The public is advised against making any speculation on this viral video. The case is still under police investigation," said Amihizam.

He said any crime-related information can be channeled to the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, or any nearby police station.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said today it detained the policewoman, who gained attention online following at least three viral videos, one of which showed her berating fellow police officers.

She was arrested at 1.20am by personnel from the Gombak district police headquarters.
