KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay is the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

He assumed the position from Tan Sri Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid, who had been appointed the nation's top cop.

Ayob will helm the position of the country's Deputy Inspector-General of Police effective Friday (June 23).

Ayob Khan was previously appointed the Federal Criminal Investigations Department director on April 16.

Before he was appointed to the Federal Criminal Investigations Department, he held a post as the Bukit Aman's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director in January 2022.

Before that, the 57-year-old had also assumed the position of Johor police chief in March 2020.

Ayob Khan, who is known for his no-nonsense approach to fighting crime, was the Special Branch Counter-Terrorism (E8) principal assistant director for many years.

During his tenure at E8, he had many successes in crippling the domestic terrorism activities of Islamic State militants and other militant groups threatening the country.
