EC to decide polling, nomination day of upcoming state election on Wednesday

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on Wednesday to decide on the important dates for the upcoming elections in six states.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said the meeting, which will take place at the commission's headquarters here, will be chaired by its chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.

"The EC has received official notification of the dissolution of the 14th state legislative assemblies for the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan from the respective state assembly speakers.

"Therefore, the EC will convene a special meeting on July 5 (Wednesday). The meeting will be held to discuss important matters related to the 15th state elections such as election writ, nomination day, polling date, electoral roll to be used and other preparation for the polls," he said.

Ikmalrudin said a press conference will follow suit after the meeting.

Of the six states, Kelantan was the first to dissolve its state legislative assembly on June 22 followed by Selangor the following day.

Kedah, Penang and Terengganu dissolved their state assemblies on June 28.

Negri Sembilan was the last of the six states, with dissolution of its legislative assembly coming on July 1.
