IPOH: Police arrested three women to assist in the investigation into the alleged abuse of children at a nursery in Taman Meru Perdana 2 here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said the women, aged between 26 and 51, were arrested on Friday after they had their statements taken at the district police headquarters here.
Yahaya said that the matter came to light after a 31-year-old man lodged a police report on Thursday after noticing his two-year-old daughter had suffered injuries on her left arm when he picked her up from the nursery.
"The man suspected that his child's injuries were a result of being physically abused by the nursery's teacher.
"Following the report, police arrested the three women, who are a manager and teachers at the nursery, to facilitate the investigation," he said in a statement today.
Yahaya added they were remanded for a week until July 17 to facilitate investigations under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for exposure of a child likely to cause physical injury.
"Until today, police have received five reports from parents involving five children aged between one and two years old under the care of the nursery.
"Police are completing the investigation of this case and the investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for proposed charges," he said.
