Child abuse: Besut babysitters remanded 6 days

BESUT: Police have arrested two babysitters suspected of abusing a three-year-old boy and his younger sister at a nursery here, several days after the clip of the incident went viral on social media.

Both women, aged 26 and 50, were arrested by the police following a report lodged by the mother of the siblings at 7pm on Friday.

District police chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim's mother found out about the incident after someone told and showed her the clip of it.

"Preliminary investigations found that the boy had a small swelling on his forehead while his one-year-old sister had a pinch mark

"Checks also showed the nursery was registered under the Department of Social Welfare and the case is still under police investigation," he said in a statement.

Police have also obtained remand orders against the suspects to assist in investigations into the case under the Children Act 2001.

Judge Tuan Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud granted the police's application to remand the suspects for six days until Sept 12 when they were produced at the Besut Court here today.
