KOTA KINABALU: The feasibility study on the relocation of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport has been completed.
Qhazanah Sabah Bhd chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said the report would be presented to the relevant authority this week.
"There will be a presentation of the report to the Sabah Economic Planning unit on Thursday.
"After that it will be brought to the next cabinet meeting for approval," he said during a press conference at the government-linked company's office here.
Qhazanah previously inked a memorandum of understanding with Berjaya Land for the purpose of studying the feasibility of relocating the airport from here to Kimanis, about 60km away.
The proposal has received criticism and objection from the public as many believe that there are more crucial issues concerning infrastructure and basic necessities that should be prioritised.
Yusof added while he could not divulge more of the outcome of the study, the relocation was to accommodate the increasing passenger capacity.
Earlier, he also said Qhazanah, which is the state investment arm, wanted to develop the state and contribute to the wellbeing of the people.
During the event, Qhazanah has handed over RM50,000 to the Sabah Journalists Association for the Kinabalu Press Awards 2023.
