Senior citizen dies over Genting hotel room misunderstanding, suspect detained

BENTONG: A misunderstanding over a hotel room led to the death of a senior citizen at the parking lot of a resort in Genting Highlands near here yesterday.

The 67-year-old victim was found sprawled on the ground with injuries on the mouth, eyes and face in the 5.40pm incident.

District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said a 38-year-old suspect was detained near the resort several hours later to facilitate investigations.

"The Genting Highlands police station was alerted after the victim was found on the ground. A team from the Bentong police station was deployed to the scene.

"Footage from a closed-circuit television camera in the area showed that the victim was earlier involved in a quarrel with man at the hotel lobby.

"Both men were seen leaving the lobby area and heading towards the parking lot, where they were involved in another fight.

"Investigations revealed that the fight started due to a misunderstanding and dissatisfaction over a hotel room," he said in a statement.

Zaiham also said that the suspect, who has been remanded for seven days starting today, has previous criminal records.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder

The victim's body has been sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan for post mortem, he added.
