Johor police chief appointed Johor Crime Prevention Foundation adviser

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Crime Prevention Foundation in its aim to closely work with the police in combating crime, appointed the Johor police chief as its foundation's new advisor.

Foundation chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said Commissioner Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat's vast experience and leadership qualities will enhance the effectiveness of the foundation, particularly in the area of public safety.

"Kamarul Zaman fits the bill perfectly. With his appointment, I believe we are able to bridge any interaction gap between the public and enforcement agencies," he said.

The police chief as the foundation's advisor allows seamless flow of information sharing and will further enhance the people's confidence to come forward with tips or information that will help reduce crimes in the state.

Tee said that the foundation is open to collaborate with agencies and companies to implement crime prevention programmes and awareness campaigns.

"The programmes and awareness campaigns should engage the communities and with their feedback, we aim to design a system with effective crime prevention methods.

"All parties should play their respective roles, especially housing estate residents and its associations. They should be the police's eyes and ears. This will be mutually beneficial to all parties," he said.

Tee paid Kamarul Zaman a courtesy visit at the Johor police contingent headquarters last week.

The foundation's state-level committee members will be formed soon, followed by the district-level community. This will see the involvement of 13 district police headquarters in the state.

The Johor Crime Prevention Foundation is the south-wing of the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF).

MCPF is a non-governmental organisation established in 1993. It is a chapter of the Asia Crime Prevention Foundation which is based in Tokyo, Japan.
