Security guard trampled by wild elephant in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A 42-year-old security guard was killed after he was trampled by a wild elephant at Lojing Highlands here yesterday.

The victim and his friend were on their way to fish at a nearby river when the incident happened about 4pm.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said police received a report from the Pos Brooke health clinic where the victim was treated at about 7pm last night.

Following the report, he said a police team was sent to the scene to investigate the incident.

"Police were informed that the victim and his friend were riding a motorcycle and on their way to fish at a river in Lojing Highlands when they bumped into two wild elephants.

"This resulted in both of them falling off from their bike. His friend who was riding pillion, managed to escape on foot, leaving the victim behind.

"The friend returned to the scene later and found the man lying in pain in some bushes.

"He rushed his friend to the clinic but the victim was pronounced dead about  4.45pm," he said in a statement.

He added checks on the victim's body saw several bruises and injuries on his left waist believed to be from being trampled by one of the elephants.

He said police have ruled out any foul play in the incident and the post-mortem result showed that the man died due to lung injuries.
