KUALA LUMPUR: The arrival of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Bukit Antarabangsa, Mohd Kamri Kamarudin pushing his ailing wife in a wheelchair to cast their votes attracted the attention of many other voters.
Mohd Kamri and his wife were casting their votes at SMK Seri Keramat near Ampang here early at 8.30am.
His wife, Suzana Shahruddin suffers from stage four Gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) and needs a wheelchair to move around.
Suzana, 52, said she was relieved at being able to vote despite her ill health. She said her condition was no deterrent for her to cast her vote.
She wanted to be her husband's strongest supporter too.
"We are counting our blessings because my two children and I are still able to help my husband. We are going with him to exercise our duty as citizens," said Suzana, who is a former coordinator for the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat.
Meanwhile, Mohd Kamri said it was the first time he is contesting as a candidate for an election.
"I have seen and experienced many elections, but this is the first where I am standing as a candidate instead of merely exercising my right to vote as a citizen.
"Upon my arrival here, I saw the election process carried out smoothly amidst good weather.
" I hope many fellow Malaysians come out to fulfil their duty to vote," he said.
