Young voters amazed by speedy voting process in comparison to GE15

SHAH ALAM: Compared to the 15th General Election (GE15) in November last year, today's voting process in the Batu Tiga constituency was a pleasant surprise for the young voters who turned out to vote.

Muhammad Anis Danish, 26, said that he arrived by 1.46pm at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 19 here and left barely five minutes later.

He said that during GE15, it took him close to an hour from waiting in line to finally vote.

"I came around the same time as in November, but this really surprised me.

"I thought it would be the same as the last time but I did not expect it to be this quick," he said when met outside the school today.

His friend Muhamad Danial Abdul Latif, 26, also concurred with his view.

He said that there was a long line back in November, but today there were barely people awaiting their turn to vote.

"The difference is significant. I am not sure why it is empty this time around," he said.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for the seat, Danial Al-Rashid Haron who met the press earlier at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 20 around 11am said that the situation varied according to locations, but agreed that voting channels for senior citizens were more packed than the youths.

He said that youths might be avoiding the expected crowd in the morning.

"Hopefully the numbers will improve as time goes by," he added.

New Straits Times spoke to a staff manning the voting stations who also confirmed that the youth channels had less numbers.

Voting centres are open until 6pm today.
