Suhaily to start work as federal CID director on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: Newly promoted Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain will be assuming office on Tuesday, earlier than scheduled.

A source from the department said Shuhaily had been asked to assume his duties sooner as the position has been vacant for too long.

"Although the transfer order states his new position is effective Aug 30, this is an extraordinary case because of urgent requests for the position to be filled as soon as possible.

"Shuhaily will take office on Tuesday after a handover-of-duty ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur City Police headquarters on Monday," the source added.

He said an official announcement will be made to the media latest by tomorrow.

Less than four months after becoming Kuala Lumpur police chief, Shuhaily is said to be on the 'fast track' when he was named the new federal CID director, replacing Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The position fell vacant when former inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani opted for early retirement in June this year.

Upon Acryl Sani's retirement, Ayob Khan was promoted to deputy IGP on June 22.

Suhaily was Penang police chief before his appointment as Kuala Lumpur police chief on May 15.

Following in his father's footsteps, he joined the force in 1997 after graduating from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.

Shuhaily was assigned to the Special Branch for the first five years before he was sent on a mission to Kosovo for 18 months. He returned to the Special Branch in 2004.

He was also given the responsibility to open the first Police Attache in Washington DC, and served as district police chief in Teluk Intan and Perak Hilir, among other places.

Shuhaily became Penang police chief before the age of 50, making him one of the youngest to be appointed to such a position.

He is also one of the youngest to be appointed federal CID director.

The city police chief's role is set to be taken over by Federal Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) deputy director Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.
