KANOWIT: A man has died after being crushed by a tree while tree-cutting in his garden along Jalan Lukut-Penyulau earlier today.
The spokesman for the Sarawak State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre confirmed in a statement today that the victim, identified as 59-year-old Wong Sieh Ming, was pronounced dead at the scene by a team from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) who conducted an examination on the victim.
"A team of firefighters from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving an emergency call at 12 noon," he said.
Upon arrival, the fire and rescue team found a victim lying on the ground, believed to have been crushed by a fallen tree.
It is understood that prior to their arrival, members of the public had cleared the area to facilitate the rescue operation.
Examination conducted by the MOH team on-site confirmed the victim's demise.
The victim's body was subsequently handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.
