Man pinned by branch while cutting tree

SIK: A man sustained injuries to his left leg after being struck by a 0.25-metre-wide tree branch he was cutting while working behind the teachers' quarters of SK Seri Dusun here today.

The 35-year-old was reportedly trimming the branch alone when the accident occurred.

School staff noticed the incident and promptly contacted the Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire and Rescue station chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said they received the emergency call at 5.50pm

Seven personnel arrived at the scene to assist the victim, who was trapped in the tree at a height of 4.57 metres.

"Firefighters used ladders and specialised equipment to free the man, who had suffered a leg injury," said Zulkhairi.

The rescue operation, which involved a chainsaw unit, was carried out in heavy rain and took approximately 10 minutes.

The injured man was transported to Sik Hospital via the Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle for treatment.

Zulkhairi advised the public, especially locals, to exercise caution when felling trees and to use appropriate safety gear to prevent injuries.
