KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has cautioned that those sharing photos or videos of victims in the plane crash near Elmina could be subject to legal action.
In a statement, the commission said those sharing any form of content involving victims or related parties may be subjected to legal action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA).
MCMC advised all parties to take down any photos or videos of the victims of the tragedy and not to spread or share them.
"Sharing photos or video recordings of the crash victims will not only offend the families of victims, but also violates the most basic principles and ethics.
"It is important for all individuals to exercise thoughtful consideration and take down images of the victims and not to disseminate or further share such content," it said, while conveying its condolences and sympathy to the families of the plane crash victims in Elmina.
Under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, a person is liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding a year, or both, and shall also be liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for every day time the offence is continued, upon conviction.
