Patriot condemns PN states for using own logo for Merdeka Day celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) has slammed Perikatan Nasional (PN) led states for wanting to use different National Day logos and themes from the federal government ahead of the 66th National Day later this month.

Its president Brig-Gen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Mohammed Raji said that the proposal by PN Youth leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari for the Merdeka celebration in Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu was an anti-government stance.

He said that the move is not only seen as arrogant, but instils anti-government sentiments in the country.

"Using different themes and logos for the national day celebration in the four PN-ruled states, by all counts, is seen as betraying the principles of federalism practised in this country.

"What have the Bersatu and Pas leadership got to say about this dangerous trend they are said to be mooting?

"Never in the history of our nationhood since gaining independence has there ever been such a stance in the country. Why now?" he said in a statement today.

The government recently unveiled the Merdeka Day logo and theme, "Malaysia MADANI: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan' for this year's celebration.

However, Ahmad Fadhli said that PN states will opt for an alternative logo and theme.

Mohamed Arshad called on the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take drastic action against such practices, deemed to be dangerous and harmful to the nation's well being.
