Cancel approval for concert, DCM I tells MBSP

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has asked the Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) to cancel the approval for the Viral Lagu-Lagu TikTok Malaysia Indonesia 2023 concert, scheduled to be held at Dewan Milenium, Kepala Batas on Sept 30.

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the planned concert had received objections from the locals, who said it did not take into account the sensitivity of Muslims, especially since it would be held two days after Muslims celebrate Maulidur Rasul (Prophet's birthday).

"The locals (in Kepala Batas) have raised their official objections with the MBSP mayor recently.

"The state government takes note of the concert, and as the state Islamic Development exco, I have asked the MBSP to cancel the approval for the concert.

"However, the organiser had requested to move the location of the concert to Batu Kawan with additional conditions," he said.

Since Tuesday, posters of the Viral Lagu-Lagu TikTok Malaysia Indonesia 2023 concert, said to feature Baby Shima and several artists from Indonesia, have gone viral.

However, there were no complete details about the organiser of the event.

Mohamad Abdul's statement has earned praises from netizens, who are impressed with his swift action.

They also described it as an apt decision.

Others said it should be cancelled completely.

Meanwhile, Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, in a posting on his Facebook account, also voiced his objection about the concert.

He said after receiving details, he had asked his #TeamBertamKita to raise an official objection with the MBSP mayor, Datuk Azhar Arshad.

"Firstly, such a concert is not suitable to be held here in Kepala Batas.

"And secondly, it is planned to be held two days after Maulidur Rasul," he added.
