King and Queen begin 5-day "Kembara Kenali Borneo" in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah begin their five-day tour in Sabah today.

The "Kembara Kenali Borneo" will be launched tonight and there will be dinner with the people at Tawau Community Hall.

The flagging off ceremony will be held in Tawau tomorrow and would see the entourage stopping by Lahad Datu for a luncheon with the people.

On Tuesday in Sandakan, the King and Queen are expected to visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre before having breakfast with the rakyat at Sabah Forestry Institute.

They will then head to Pentas Budaya in Ranau for dinner with the community.

On Wednesday, Al-Sultan Abdullah will launch Sabah Syariah Court Complex in the state capital.

On their last day in Sabah before departing for Brunei, the royal couple will have breakfast at KadazanDusun Cultural Association building in Penampang.

The expedition spans 2,154km through the Pan Borneo Highway which connects Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.

The tour, which will end in Telok Melano, Sarawak on Sept 13 will be a historic occasion as it is meant for the King and Queen to get to know the people of Sabah and Sarawak through programmes related to customs, culture and tribal handicrafts.
