JOHOR BARU: The Tok Batin (village head) of the Orang Asli Seletar Laut community expects Pakatan Harapan's by-election candidate to assist the community with additional homes.
The 62-year-old Tok Batin Kais Kee, said the 50-odd voters in the village in Kampung Bakar Batu, here, were hardcore Barisan Nasional supporters.
"In the past, we have only seen BN representatives here, while other politicians were only seen during the election period.
"Most of us remember Datuk Nur Jazlan (Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed)… he helped us upgrade the infrastructure here, build houses for us, and overall improved our lives… but then he was not re-elected… yet our BN friends still come and help us when we are in need.
"What we need now, is an additional 10 houses to accommodate married villagers who have families of their own. Most of them are squatting in the homes built in the past by Datuk (Nur Jazlan).
"We also hope our new representative will help us, who are mostly fishermen, in improving our economic situation," he said.
Earlier, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani visited villagers and voters at Kampung Sungai Perling, before meeting Pakatan Harapan's Pulai parliamentary candidate Suhaizan Kaiat at the Orang Asli's village.
Suhaizan is also Amanah vice-chairman and Pulai Amanah division chief.
Amanah is among the 19 coalition party members in PH.
Johari said there were many hardcore BN voters in the country, as BN was the ruling government for the past 60 years.
He said BN election machinery should explain to voters about their coalition party members in PH, and help them understand the unity and BN's role with its coalition members in forming the unity government.
