JOHOR BARU: A harrowing incident unfolded merely 500 meters away from a polling centre today, as a woman's car was crushed by a falling tree, resulting in a nightmarish experience.
The mishap occurred in Jalan Pertahanan, Taman Desa Rahmat, where a 57-year-old woman found herself in a perilous situation, sustaining injuries to her left thigh as a wooden object pierced through her.
Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) Larkin, Operations commander Senior Officer II Mohd Shah Rizal Abdul Rahman, shared details of the incident, stating that an emergency call was received at 3.02pm.
In response, 10 personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
"The victim was behind the wheel of a BMW when a falling tree crushed her vehicle. The 58-year-old woman injured her left thigh when struck by a wooden object that had dislodged due to the impact.
"What makes this incident even more unsettling is that the victim had just finished casting her vote at the nearby polling centre, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato Abdul Rahman Yassin.
"The calamity unfolded a mere 500 metres from the polling centre," he said.
Efforts to rescue the victim from the wreckage were swiftly initiated, and she was provided with preliminary medical attention at the scene.
Subsequently, she was transported to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for further treatment.
The firefighters cut down the fallen tree with two chainsaws and completed the task by 3:28pm.
