Suhaizan to be sworn in as Pulai MP soon -- Deputy Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Suhaizan Kaiyat who won the Pulai parliamentary by-election on Saturday will be sworn in as a member of the Parliament soon.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor said the matter had been discussed and Suhaizan will take his oath as an MP before the Parliamentary Special Session on the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP) ends next week.

"We have a few more days of session on the 12MP and from what I was informed, it (the swearing in) will take place before the end of the scheduled period (of the special session)," he said.

Ramli said this in response to Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer who raised a standing order 5(1) on the process of swearing in following Suhaizan's win in Pulai.

"When will the candidate who won the Pulai parliamentary constituency be sworn in as this is already the second day of the special session?" asked Rayer.

On Saturday, Suhaizan won the Pulai parliamentary constituency with 18,641 majority votes.

He secured 48,283 votes, beating Perikatan Nasional candidate Zulkifli Jaafar who gained 29,642 votes.

The by-election in Pulai was triggered by the passing of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.
