BESUT: A family of four who went for a weekend getaway to the popular resort island of Pulau Perhentian over the weekend are now missing and unreachable.
Besut district police chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad, said the missing have been identified as Suraidah Abdul Ghani, 52, from Kluang, Johor, and three other family members, her son Mohamad Aiman Mohd Rafee, 21, and grandchildren Sasa Alesha, 7, and Ahmad Dhani Mohd Saiful, 4.
The family are believed to have left the island on Sunday. Family members have not been able to get in touch with Suraidah or Mohamad Aiman since Saturday.
"Investigations found that the victims went to Pulau Perhentian on Sept 29 and they stayed at a resort there and checked out at 8am on Oct 1," he said today.
Abdul Rozak said initial investigations found that all of the missing had participated in a snorkeling activity on Sept 29 and 30.
"The boat operator said that the handphones of the mother and the son had got wet and could not be switched on.
"The victim said she was going to Batu Buruk, Kuala Terengganu after leaving Pulau Perhentian.
"The victim used a light blue Proton Saga BLM bearing the registration number JRW 6380," he said.
He said all four victims took a boat at around 8am and arrived at the Jetty in Kuala Besut at around 9am on Oct 1.
"A review of the Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) found that the victim's car exited Kuala Besut town heading towards Jambatan Kastam on Oct 1 at 10.06am," he said.
