KUALA LUMPUR: The National Technology Association of Malaysia (Pikom) hopes the government will create an enabling regulatory environment for businesses to operate and invest in the digital economy in the 2024 Budget.
Pikom chief executive officer, Ong Kian Yew, said this could be done by simplifying regulations and reducing bureaucracy.
"An enabling regulatory environment will make it easier for the government to implement enforcement and monitor (if rules are flouted)," he told Bernama, adding that a cyber security infrastructure and regulations will raise investors' confidence.
To encourage international cooperation in the digital economy, Ong suggested the government work with other countries to develop common standards and regulations to help create a level playing field for businesses.
Another suggestion is for the government to provide training in coding, data science and cloud computing to improve the skills of the workforce.
"This will help ensure that everyone has the skills they need to join the digital economy," he said.
Pikom is Malaysia's largest digital and technology association with over 1,000 members from large, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), cloud scalers, software developers, data centres and companies involved in telecommunications, cyber security and shared services. – Bernama
