KUALA LUMPUR: The recovery of 1Malaysia Development Bhd's assets and identifying the whereabouts of its alleged mastermind Low Taek Jho are priorities of the police following the return of Roger Ng Chong Hwa to Malaysia.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the 51-year-old Malaysian, who is facing a 10 year prison sentence after being convicted in New York for helping to loot billions of dollars from 1MDB, was officially detained yesterday.
He said the Malaysian investigation will include identifying his exact role and the modus operandi of the multi billion dollar scam.
"We have him now and we believe he will give us his full cooperation in the course of investigations.
"However, due to safety concerns, his whereabouts throughout police investigations would be kept confidential," he told a press conference at Bukit Aman today.
Razarudin said Ng is also required to assist in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Security Commission's investigation, upon the completion of the police investigation.
"Ng is being investigated over the 1MDB case and we hope to uncover several things including the modus operandi, asset recovery and other matters related to the 1MDB scam.
