KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to continue giving electricity bill rebates of up to RM40 per month to extremely poor households with an allocation of RM55 million.
Announcing this today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has also agreed to exempt electricity bill account deposit payments in its own name.
He said the government will continue to improve the targeted electricity subsidy approach according to the level of electricity consumption.
"The government hopes that this decision will give the right signal to consumers to practise energy efficiency and frugal practices in their daily electricity use," he told the Dewan Rakyat during the 2024 Budget tabling today.
