KUALA LUMPUR: The government will allocate more than RM2.4 billion to the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this aid would benefit over 450,000 people, especially poor households.
In a separate development, he said income obtained from the number plate special sales would be used to ease the burden of the underprivileged.
"The government has agreed to absorb the cost of driving licence fees for B2 motorcycles, e-hailing and taxis for the benefit of more than 40,000 youth from underprivileged families.
"A total of 100,000 helmets including for children will be distributed free of charge to underprivileged families," he said when tabling the 2024 Budget today.
He said 60,000 students from underprivileged families would enjoy subsidised flight tickets under the FLYsiswa initiative to reduce the financial burden of students who wish to return to their hometowns.
