2024 Budget reflects unity government's balanced development for Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The unity government supports balanced development among all the regions in the country, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He was referring to the development allocation of RM6.6 billion for Sabah in the 2024 Budget.

"The increase in next year's allocation by RM100 million is part of the federal government's efforts to fulfil the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

"The Sabah government welcomes and appreciates the allocation and is determined to use it as inspiration when we present the Sabah State Budget 2024 in the near future," he said in response to the budget tabled by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Hajiji said the 2024 budget, the second budget presented by Anwar since taking over the helm of government on November 24, 2022, clearly demonstrates that Borneo continues to be driven in the nation's development, with Sarawak also being allocated RM5.8 billion.

He said the improved and progressive fiscal policy introduced through the 2024 Budget will have a significant impact on Sabah's efforts to develop its economy and attract foreign investment.

"We see the policies introduced through the 2024 Budget as highly inclusive, taking into account the global economic situation."

Earlier, he watched the presentation of the 2024 Budget together with state Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, through a live broadcast from the Dewan Rakyat at his office here.

Hajiji also welcomed the 2024 Budget as it reflected the commitment of the unity government to reduce poverty and narrow income disparities in the country.

He added the core essence of the 2024 Budget will be taken into account and adapted in line with Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) through the upcoming Sabah State Budget 2024.
