KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya is set to see the use of electric vehicles as official cars following the announcement of over RM170 million in investments by various companies in the local Electric Vehicle (EV) industry.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said during the 2024 Budget tabling that the EV industry's development would be given emphasis.
The investments, he added, include installation of 180 charging stations by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Gentari and Tesla Malaysia, among others.
To boost the use of electric motorcycles, the government will introduce the Electric Motorcycle Encouragement Scheme, which will be made available to Malaysians with an annual earning of RM120,000 and below.
"This scheme will provide a RM2,400 rebate to buyers.
"To support the LRT3 project, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has agreed to procure 150 electric buses and build three bus depots with a total cost of RM600 million," he told the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, said Putrajaya would be made a low-carbon model city, with the administration capital to see the use of electric vehicles as official cars.
