Boy dies after falling into washing machine

IPOH: A six-year-old boy was found unconscious by his grandmother in a washing machine at a home in Kampung Sungai Tambahan, Manjoi here yesterday.

The boy, however, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here. It was learnt that he fell into the washing machine while it was in operation.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said that police were alerted to the incident after they received a police report from the HRPB at 11.44am.

Yahaya said initial investigations found that during the incident, the boy was with his family at the house.

"The boy was found by his grandmother at about 9.30am yesterday and he was unconscious at that time.

"The victim then was taken to the hospital by ambulance and he was pronounced dead at 11.02am," he said in a statement today.

Yahaya said that based on a post-mortem result, the cause of the death was due to blunt head trauma.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of the child in a manner likely to cause him/her physical or emotional injury.

Yahaya added that parents or guardians should not leave their children without appropriate supervision to avoid any unwanted tragedies.
