KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat again descended into chaos today.
This time, after a member of parliament (MP) made a mention of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's 'anak menantu' (son-in-law) who allegedly fled abroad.
Muhyiddin was debating on the 2024 Budget when Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) interjected.
Khoo, initially asked about the signing of the monopoly of rice during Muhyiddin's tenure as the prime minister, as well as asking why the Pagoh MP was sceptical about the subsidy as announced during the 2024 Budget last Friday.
He then went on; "Why are you being sceptical? Why during your tenure as the prime minister, you are not doing it in a 'berhemah' (cautios) way, until your 'anak menantu' flee the country and yet to return."
Khoo's statement then caused uproar among the opposition members including from Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), who asked him to retract the statement.
Deputy Speaker Alice Lau then asked Khoo to retract his statement, which she said was not related to the session.
Khoo, however, was adamant, asking under which section he must retract his statement.
Lau repeatedly asked Khoo to retract his statement but to no avail.
Lau to Khoo: I instruct Kota Melaka to retract the statement, or you can rest and come back after lunch. (In BM: Kamu boleh rehat dan balik selepas lunch).
Khoo then replied; "I'll go out because I'm defending....(his mic was muted).
Khoo tried to explain, however, he was not allowed to do so.
During the heated argument, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim was also heard saying; "Ini bangsat punya orang."
This prompted Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to interject; "Bahasa kurang sopan (disrespectful language) towards Kota Melaka, retract it.
Shahidan: I did not direct it to anyone.
Rayer also said that Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim had uttered the word Zionist, and asked the latter to retract it too.
