GEORGE TOWN: There are no signs of security threat to Malaysia following the conflict in Gaza.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this was based on the status of an initial report received on the ground.
"This is based on what I had been briefed by the Inspector-General of Police.
"And it is important for our people to know that," he told newsmen here today.
He was met after opening the Kebun Bunga state assemblyman Lee Boon Heng's service centre here.
He was asked on the arrest of two local men over suspicions of hacking the digital menu screen of a fast food outlet in Kuala Langat, Selangor on Tuesday.
Elaborating, Saifuddin said among the measures taken to ensure security was to increase preparedness at the country's borders, besides working with neighbouring countries in sharing of intelligence
"From what had been reported back, the situation is well under control," he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on cybersecurity following the conflict in Gaza, Saifuddin said Malaysia is coming out with a new cybersecurity entity, which will be placed under the Prime Minister's Office.
"What is important is that we will have a new law, suitable for this new entity.
"This step is taken as the government's response to the growing potential threat of cybercrime.
"That is a development that we have discussed at the ministerial level and it is now in the making," he said.
Saifuddin said he did not foresee the bill will be passed in the next few Dewan Rakyat sittings.
"The bill making process regarding the new entity of cybersecurity is being worked on by the Attorney General," he said.
