KUALA LUMPUR: Disrupted drainage systems due to construction work are said to be the cause of a flash flood incident at the Subang Parade shopping mall, Subang Jaya, near here, yesterday.
The Subang Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, stated that due to construction works behind the shopping mall, the drainage system was not functioning properly.
"Yesterday, at around 5.30pm, heavy rain in the Subang Jaya area continued for three hours, resulting in water overflowing into the mall building.
"The drainage system in the building's parking area was not functioning properly, causing flash flooding in the affected location," he said in a statement today.
He mentioned that the flash flood incident did not involve any damage to vehicles, and all affected vehicles were successfully relocated.
"However, there was water overflowing into the mall's premises. The flash flood gradually receded later in the evening," he added.
Following the incident, he advised the public to remain cautious and avoid low-lying areas during uncertain weather conditions in this Northeast Monsoon season.
Yesterday, members of the public shared information on social media about the flooding in the parking area and the lower levels of the Subang Jaya shopping centre.
