JKR Hulu Langat implements innovative pilot project: ''Glow in the Dark" road paint

KUALA LUMPUR: The use of "Glow in the Dark" or luminescent road paint is an innovative pilot project by the Public Works Department (JKR) in Hulu Langat.

This latest innovation project is being carried out at the intersection of Jalan Sg Lalang Batu 19 and Jalan Sg Tekali Batu 16 Semenyih.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi conducted an on-site inspection personally, to assess the efficiency of road markings employing "Glow in the Dark" technology subsequent to the MYJalan campaign, last night.

Taking to Facebook, he emphasised the importance of incorporating technology and innovation into these tasks to ensure that road maintenance works were carried out efficiently.

"This pioneering project by the Hulu Langat District Public Works Department covers a length of 245 metres with 490 metres of road markings.

"Initiatives like this are found to be suitable for dark passageways without streetlights, with a durability of up to 10 hours in darkness while still providing a good 'glow' effect even in rainy weather.

"However, the ministry is still evaluating its overall effectiveness, including its currently relatively high implementation costs," he stated.

Nanta also extended his gratitude to Hulu Langat Member of Parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan along with the Ministry of Works and Public Works Department team members who joined him last night.

It was previously reported that Nanta took the nation's MYJalan road safety campaign to the world stage when speaking at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague.

He said he told the congress that the campaign was aligned with Sweden's Vision Zero strategy, which was also adopted by the European Union in 2019.

"MYJalan envisions a future where accidents are preventable, emphasising shared responsibility in road safety. The campaign also supports Malaysia's Madani vision for a civilised, skilled, and inclusive society.

"This campaign aims to enhance accountability and promote awareness among road users, industry players, and government agencies that road management is a shared responsibility," he said in a statement.
