KUALA LUMPUR: Two photographs showcasing luminous road markings in Batu Pahat have captured widespread attention after being shared on the Facebook page Biar Sekejap.
The images depict glow-in-the-dark lines, a new initiative by the Works Ministry aimed at enhancing road safety, particularly during night driving.
The caption accompanying the post reads: 'This photo was not taken abroad... But in our own backyard at Batu Pahat'.
In February, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was quoted as saying that the photoluminescent paint cost RM749 per sq metre, compared to RM40 per sq metre for conventional road marking paint.
The photos taken at Jalan Paloh in Batu Pahat show part of a 300-metre stretch with luminous road markings.
The post has been liked by over 18,000 netizens and received more than 1,600 comments.
Among the comments were from Wan Fatimah who said she hoped for the initiative to be expanded throughout Malaysia because she has a night vision problem.
Another user, Putra Al-haj said: "Excellent! This is what we call an exemplary work... This is what the people want. great."
Cik Hasniza Hassan wrote :"Would it be good if its applied to all the poorly lit roads. At times, even the white lines are not visible, some faded and some invisible in the dark of night."
