Muslim Scholars Association calls for immediate cancellation of Coldplay concert

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muslim Scholars Association of Malaysia (PUM) is calling for immediate cancellation of Coldplay's concert that will take place this Wednesday.

PUM Youth, Dr Muhamad Alihanafiah Norasid in a statement said, the organisation of the hedonistic program neglected Muslims and Malaysians local norms and morals.

He said the government has a legal and moral responsibility to curb such activities that can destroy local moral and cultural values.

"Thus, PUM insists that entertainment in Islam has its boundaries that need to be respected," he said.

"PUM fully supports the Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah's statement that the organisers should not continue the programs that leads to the moral depravity of Malaysians.

"The public is also advised not to support this kind of program because it can pollute the minds of Muslims with extreme entertainment, and even risk being colonised by an identity crisis that some parties are trying to normalise," he said.

Furthermore, he said the organisation of the concert was held at a time when the Palestinian people were being persecuted by the Israeli Zionist regime without mercy.

"This extreme entertainment drags Malaysians, especially young people, to be insensitive to crimes against humanity and the increasing loss of life.

"Therefore, PUM insists that this Coldplay concert be canceled immediately," he said.

The Federal Territories Mufti reportedly said that the Coldplay: Music of Spheres Concert should be called off for their links to support the LGBT movement.

In a Facebook post, Dr Luqman Abdullah said the public should also refrain from supporting such programmes which are clearly against the morals and culture of the people in this country.
