KUALA LUMPUR: A donation drive to honour the attorney-general's for his service will not proceed, the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) said yesterday.
A statement issued by the A-GC's communications unit said the donation drive would not continue, despite the fact that the purpose of the collection by the Deputy Public Prosecutor was noble, Buletin TV3 reported.
A portal reported yesterday that a message was circulating on WhatsApp requesting donations to purchase a gift of appreciation for the A-G, Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.
However, the initiative faced criticism from netizens when it was revealed that the donations were set at specific amounts based on the rank of government officers.
They included RM500 for senior officers (Turus grade), RM400 for Jusa A, RM300 for Jusa B, RM200 for Jusa C, RM30 for L44, and RM20 for L41.
Screenshots published by the portal showed that the donations from each state would be managed by the prosecution director with the title "Datin", and the deadline for submission was the following day.
The portal also featured reactions from netizens, who were largely shocked by the donation drive effort.
