KUALA LUMPUR: A row of stalls in Uptown Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya went up in flames tonight.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said almost 90 per cent of the stalls at the area were destroyed in the fire.

He said the department received a distress call at 8.34pm and firemen from four stations were dispatched to the scene to put out the blaze.

"23 firemen from Sungai Buloh, Damansara, Kota Anggerik and Petaling stations were rushed to the scene. The first fire engine arrived at 8.43pm.

"The firemen managed to bring the fire under control at 9.06pm but most of the stalls were already destroyed by then.

"A gym at a nearby building was also 50 per cent damaged, as the fire spread very fast," he said.

The incident was believed to have been caused by a short circuit but investigations were still ongoing to determine the actual cause of the fire.

Wan Md Razali added that no casualties were reported in the incident.

Social media platforms were abuzz videos, posts and prayers for traders and businesses affected by the fire.
